Alaska Airlines is seeking approval from authorities in Mexico and the United States to reach two Mexican beach destinations, Los Cabos and Puerto Vallarta, with direct service departing out of Portland, Oregon.

If approved, the operations to Los Cabos would commence November 3rd of this year and go through April 27, 2015, while the flights to Puerto Vallarta would go from November 4th through April 26th.

The operations are pending approval by the Department of Transportation in the United States and the Civil Aeronautics Board in Mexico.

In a formal communiqué, Alaska Airlines’ Vice President of Communications and External Relations, Joe Sprague, expressed their interest in connecting the two locations during the winter season.

"Alaska Airlines is committed to offering the best non-stop service from the northwest coast of the Pacific to places that our customers wish to explore, and Los Cabos and Puerto Vallarta are key points," said the executive.

The airline traditionally operates 240 flights between the West Coast of the United States and Mexico during the winter season.

It transports an average of 1.5 million passengers annually to the Mexican beaches of Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, Loreto, Los Cabos, Manzanillo, Mazatlan and Puerto Vallarta, as well as the cities of Guadalajara and Mexico City.

Upon obtaining approval by both governments, the airline would take two to four weeks to set fares and schedules for the flights.

The flights between these destinations would be operated on a Boeing 737 aircraft.
